Lunar New Year is a time for coming together, a season of celebration, culture, food, and shared moments that welcome prosperity and fresh beginnings.

This year, at SkyCity we are marking the Year of the Horse with a vibrant, site-wide LunarNew Year programme that brings dining, entertainment, and street-style festivities together in the heart of Auckland.

From firecrackers and lion dancers to night markets under the Sky Tower, themed dining experiences, and immersive cultural moments, get ready to celebrate this Lunar New Year from 3 February to 3 March at SkyCity!

Lunar New Year Celebrations

Across the month, we’re bringing SkyCity to life with Lunar New Year activations designed to create moments worth sharing, whether you’re stopping by for dinner, exploring the markets, or soaking up the atmosphere around the Sky Tower.

Expect themed dining menus, festive décor, photo moments, and cultural touches that celebrate the diversity and creativity of Auckland’s pan-Asian communities.

Lunar New Year’s Eve Celebrations

16 February | Free & family friendly | From 5pm to 7pm

Celebrate on the eve of the Year of the Horse with traditional dance performances, lion dancing and booming firecrackers!

Entertainment for the little ones is covered too! Don’t miss out on the fan favourite – dancing pandas!

Learn more about the art of calligraphy with our calligraphy station in the Atrium and be mesmerised by the hanging lanterns and our festive cherry blossom tree.

Lunar New Year’s Day Celebrations

17 February | Free & family friendly | From 5pm to 7pm

Canter into the Year of the Horse with traditional dance performances, lion dances and a traditional eye-dotting ceremony, and booming firecrackers!

Be sure not to miss the God of Fortune as he descends from the Sky Tower and gives his greetings of good luck for the year.

Street Food Markets & Entertainment Under the Sky Tower

13, 14, 20 & 21 February | Free & family friendly | 4pm–10pm

On selected evenings, we will host Lunar New Year street food markets under the Sky Tower, bringing together flavours, aromas, and energy inspired by night markets across Asia.

Expect a mix of street food favourites, live entertainment, and a themed Summer Garden Bar.
